What are the best ways to protect your teeth and prevent cavities? While brushing and flossing are critical, it’s not always so easy to get into every crevasse and crack.
Our back teeth are developed with lots of grooves and it is very important to keep them clean. That is why your Lake Forest Dental doctors recommend sealants. A sealant is a protective coating that protects the pit and fissure surfaces of the back teeth. It is made of a resin (dental plastic) that adheres to the chewing surface. But remember, even though you have a sealant protecting your teeth you still need to BRUSH and FLOSS!

How are sealants applied?
It’s a simple process, and best of all placing a sealant is painless. First the tooth is dried off, and an acidic etch is placed on the tooth. The etch roughens up the tooth to allows a bond to be placed between the tooth and the sealant material. Once the etch is removed, bond is placed, and light cured. Finally, Drs. Razdolsky or Tincher will apply the sealant to the grooves of your tooth and harden it with a special blue light.
